We never wore helmets as kids, though I once went to the hospital for

16 stitches from crashing into the side of a car after flying off a sled launch ramp we built at the bottom of an access road. Still have that mark in my thigh. We used to stay warm by building a fire with used car & truck tires. The only time we saw or heard from a parent was when supper was ready. We also had 2 double-decker rider sleds break in half that day from the ramp landing. From the extra weight we figured. The parents then did prohibit the sled ramp.
